Ryan's Journal

ABOUT THE HOST...

RYAN VAN DUZER
RYAN VAN DUZER

After graduating with a Broadcast Journalism degree from the University of Colorado, Ryan Van Duzer took the natural progression toward a career in TV and moved to the absolute middle of nowhere in Honduras to work with the Peace Corps.

While there, Ryan mastered the art of giving piggy back rides to an entire village of kids while dedicating two years working with disadvantaged youth. It was the most rewarding experience of his life.

When he finished his service, he decided to take the long way home and ride a bicycle back to Colorado. This 4,000 mile journey was the most exciting three months of his life; riding through hurricanes, dangerous cities, up and down mountains and meeting all sorts of friendly strangers.

When he returned, Ryan created a fun-loving outdoor adventure program called "Out There" — the main purpose — to inspire viewers to get out and explore the beautiful surrounding. It played three times a day on a local cable access channel and quickly became popular with the late night drunkards — and of course — his mom loved it. The program eventually caught the attention of the Daily Camera, Boulder’s local newspaper, and he began producing a weekly adventure series called ‘Out There Guy’.

In September 2007 he got his first gig with the Travel Channel, filming a segment for "America’s Scariest Haunted Houses". From there he began working as a TJ (Travel Journalist) shooting, editing and hosting short segments for TraveChannel.com. Since then, he has produced and appeared on The Discovery Channel, National Geographic, CurrentTV, Men’s Journal and many other outlets. He's currently in production of a new show called "Paradise Hunter" which is set to air in fall 2013 on OLN in Canada.

However, Ryan never gave up his love for bicycle touring. He still managed to squeeze in bicycle trips from Maine to Key West, FL; Vancouver to Baja; Los Angeles to Washington, DC; and San Diego to Jacksonville, FL. Soon, he will be covering new ground riding down the entire Continental Divide.

Also: You'd be surprised to know, although being an avid vegetarian, Ryan manages to fuel his trips with PB&J burritos, and friendly hugs.
